This was initially an experiment in microtonality. I wanted to see what I could do with 24TET as two distinct sets of 12TET a quarter tone apart. I thought as it was going to end up quite strange I might as well play into that and create some more unusual rhythms by subdividing each beat into quintuplets which is a feel that I really enjoy.

What I found particularly interesting when swapping between the two scales is that the "effect" of the chord is an interesting mix of the effects of the two chords on either side. As an example, going from a tonic Im chord to a half-sharp V (or a flat-and-a-half VI) gives a mix of the more dramatic and classical sound of the V, and the more space-y sound of the bVI. Another interesting thing you can do is quarter tone changes that can allow a chord to change quite significantly whilst still seeming to blend with the previous chord well because none of the notes move far at all.
